A hinged door turns on hinges fixed to the frame. It is the proven solution, the cheaper one, and it takes generous sizes as long as you stay sensible about weight.
A pivot door turns on an offset axis, at floor and head. It allows far wider and heavier leaves, and gives that slow, silent movement associated with fine entrances. In exchange it requires a floor able to take the pivot and a recess planned before the screed — a site decision, not an option added at the end.
If your structural work is already poured, tell us at the first conversation: we'll steer you towards a wide hinged leaf rather than sell you a pivot that cannot be fitted.
